Carrilet Route II

The Carrilet Route II (Girona–Sant Feliu de Guíxols greenway) is a cycle tourism and pedestrian route that connects the city of Girona with Sant Feliu de Guíxols, on the Costa Brava. It is part of the Girona Greenways network, built on old railway lines. It is very popular with cyclists and hikers for its accessibility and scenic beauty.

Route and surroundings

The itinerary follows the old "Carrilet" railway that connected Girona with Sant Feliu until 1969. It crosses the regions of Gironès, La Selva, and Baix Empordà, passing through towns such as Cassà de la Selva, Llagostera, and Santa Cristina d’Aro. Its route combines rural sections, oak and cork oak forests, and agricultural landscapes, with gentle slopes suitable for all levels.

Connections and Greenways network

The route links up in Girona with the Carrilet Route I (Olot–Girona), forming a continuous itinerary of more than 90 km from the Pyrenees to the sea. It also connects with other itineraries of the Vies Verdes de Girona network, integrated into EuroVelo 8 (Mediterranean Route).

Services and facilities

Along the route, there are rest areas, information points, and bicycle rental, as well as interpretive signage about natural and industrial heritage. Several old railway stations have been converted into reception centers or tourist services, consolidating the route as a model of sustainable recovery of the territory.
